The repeatedly kicked can, the unspecified road and the omnipresent Mr Stearns

This morning over coffee, as I read a Radio Netherlands story about the planned neutral force to monitor the Rwanda/DRC border, I was struck by this section:

But a diplomat who declined to be identified said the agreement lacked any real solutions about which countries would provide the troops and who would fund them.

“They’ve just kicked the can down the road,” he said.

The phrase caught my attention.

“….kicked the can down the road.”

Where else have I seen that very particular metaphor to describe this very particular situation?

Ah, yes.  Now I remember.

That’s right.

Oh, and here:

Not to mention here!

Now, I am not saying that Mr. Stearns is the anonymous “diplomat” in this RNW story.

I am not saying he’s not either.

But the omnipresence of Jason Stearns in this whole mess has now ascended to a whole new level of creepy.
