Members of the US Congress have only seven working days left before they return to their districts to run for re-election. They haven’t passed a Budget or a jobs bill or a farm bill or a transport bill. They haven’t done a single thing of significance in years.
But somehow, stunningly, the House Sub-Committee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights has found time to hold a hearing tomorrow (Wednesday, 19 September) 10AM on “Examining the Role of Rwanda in the DRC Insurgency”.
And who is the star witness?
Bishop Ntambo Nkulu Ntanda, a rabid pro-Kabila propagandist from the DRC President’s hometown of Katanga. Recently, he has been touring Europe and the US demanding that countries punish Rwanda and freeze aid.
Aside my Kabilia’s sidekick, the other mouthpieces at the hearing are:
Mark Schneider, International Crisis Group
Wait for it….
Jason Stearns, Director, Rift Valley Institute
No room a single Rwandan voice, but Stearns? What possible basis? Ex-GoE coordinator? Blogger? Author?
The US Congress portrays itself as the paragon of democracy and procedural fairness.
This hearing shows it is nothing like it.
